How to Remove and treat Cradle Cap on Babies

What is Cradle cap?

Cradle Cap is also known as infantile dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis. This is a noninflammatory skin condition of the scalp.

It's a non-inflammatory skin condition, meaning you've done nothing wrong to cause this on your baby's scalp. this is how it starts but once you treat it with oil it goes from dandruff to seborrheic dermatitis which triggers inflammation on the scale, forehead, ear, eyes, arms, and diaper area.

What is seborrheic dermatitis?

Caused by the overgrowth of yeast(Malassezia) Found in the skin all over the body. This triggers inflammation causing changes in the skin. this is the overproduction of sebum(oil), yeast, and acid on the scalp.

In infants, it's an overproduction of natural oils. their bodies are brand new. the sebaceous gland is newly active for the first time. Your baby just got here. The sebaceous gland is producing oil, and yeast for the first time out of the body. there will be a slight overproduction of sebum which leads to dandruff. Do not oil your child's scalp, it will slow down their hair growth cycle or give long-term scalp disorders.

When the cradle cap starts we run to oil and soak our baby's scalp in it and then proceed to scratch the dead skin off. I have also done this and then learned that it was wrong before it went too far! Remember our mothers always told us not to peel scabs or it would leave permanent marks? The same thing applies to your baby's scalp when you remove the patches. Allow the dead skin to lift naturally and practice scientific brushing once in the morning and before bed to remove the dead skin safely. Every time you peel off dead skin your scalp creates scar tissue and you cause it to spread.

Dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis are caused by an overproduction of oil(sebum) yeast and acid. Adding oil fills the already full follicle causing the cradle cap to spread over your baby's body.

Use shampoo to dry out the excess oil on the scalp and follicles. A cradle cap is an overproduction of oil on the baby's scalp. Don't add oil and don't pick off the dead skin. You will slow down the hair growth cycle because the scalp will be focused on healing and being blocked instead of creating new hair growth cells through your baby's first anagen phase of the hair growth cycle.

Anti-oxidants and minerals present in avocado oil are known to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores and exfoliate the skin from within. it is a 5 on the scalp so its natural oil will clog the pores. You need a product that has already extracted the minerals and anti oxidants from the oil add product on screen.

Talk to your pediatrician and add avocados to your baby's diet when they are able to eat them softly. Shampoo once a day at bath time and add no oils or butter. The hair growth cycle takes 2-7 years to complete. Don't make any changes, to color, chemical, or high-tension styles until age . At age 8 your child has completed one full hair growth cycle and you can track your child.
