Organic Blue Butterfly Pea Tea

Updated: Mar 11, 2023

Organic butterfly pea tea, also known as Asian pigeonwings tea, is a herbal tea made from the flowers of the Clitoria ternatea plant. This tea is consumed in many parts of Southeast Asia due to its health benefits and therapeutic properties.

Butterfly pea tea contains the antioxidants anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins, which may help nourish the scalp by protecting it from oxidative stress and promoting hair growth. These antioxidants work by neutralizing free radicals that can damage hair follicles and lead to hair loss. Additionally, the flavonoids found in butterfly pea tea have been shown to stimulate blood circulation, which can also promote healthy hair growth.

The main benefits of organic butterfly pea tea include:

1. Anti-inflammatory Properties: Organic butterfly pea tea contains flavonoids that have anti-inflammatory properties, which help relieve pain, and reduce inflammation in the body. Let's talk more about Flavonoids!

Flavonoids are a diverse group of phytonutrients found in fruits, vegetables, tea, and other plant-based foods. Here are some ways that flavonoids may help the body:

  1. Antioxidant properties: Meaning they can help protect the body against damage from harmful molecules called free radicals. Free radicals can cause oxidative stress, which is linked to chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer's disease.

  2. Anti-inflammatory properties: Some flavonoids have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is linked to many health problems, including autoimmune diseases and certain types of cancer.

  3. Improved cardiovascular health: Flavonoids may help improve cardiovascular health by reducing blood pressure, improving blood flow, and reducing the risk of blood clots. Some studies have also suggested that flavonoids may help lower cholesterol levels.

  4. Improved cognitive function: Some flavonoids, such as those found in blueberries, may help improve cognitive function and memory.

  5. Reduced risk of certain cancers: Some studies have suggested that flavonoids may help reduce the risk of certain cancers, including breast, ovarian, and lung cancer.

  6. Improved immune function: Flavonoids may help improve immune function by boosting the activity of immune cells and reducing inflammation.

It is important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the health benefits of flavonoids, and that consuming flavonoids in food form (rather than supplements) is recommended for optimal health.

2. Antioxidant Properties: This tea is rich in antioxidants that help prevent cell damage caused by free radicals that can lead to chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

Cell damage can affect hair growth in a number of ways. Here are some possible mechanisms:

  1. Inflammation: When cells are damaged, they can trigger an inflammatory response in the body. Chronic inflammation can disrupt the hair growth cycle, leading to hair loss or reduced hair growth.

  2. Oxidative stress: Cell damage can also lead to oxidative stress, which occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals (harmful molecules) and antioxidants in the body. This can damage hair follicles and interfere with hair growth.

  3. Hormonal imbalances: Some types of cell damage, such as damage to the thyroid gland, can lead to hormonal imbalances that can affect hair growth.

  4. Nutrient deficiencies: Cell damage can impair the body's ability to absorb and utilize nutrients, leading to nutrient deficiencies. Certain nutrients, such as iron and vitamin D, are important for healthy hair growth, so deficiencies in these nutrients can impact hair growth.

  5. Immune system dysfunction: Some types of cell damage can lead to dysfunction of the immune system, which can trigger autoimmune conditions that can affect hair growth.

In summary, cell damage can impact hair growth by disrupting the hair growth cycle, damaging hair follicles, hormonal imbalances, and nutrient deficiencies, triggering autoimmune conditions. Maintaining overall health and wellness, including a balanced diet and stress management, can help support healthy hair growth despite cell damage.

3. Stress Relief: The tea contains natural compounds that are known to have a calming effect on the mind and help reduce stress levels.

4. Improved Cognitive Function: The tea contains nootropic properties and is believed to enhance brain function, memory retention, and alertness.

The history of organic butterfly pea tea dates back to ancient Ayurvedic medicine where it was used for its medicinal properties. It was known to treat a wide variety of ailments including anxiety, menstrual problems, and general weakness. Butterfly pea tea was also used topically to heal various skin conditions and promote healthy hair growth.

In Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, butterfly pea tea is traditionally served as a cooling beverage with a hint of lemon or lime juice. It is also a natural food coloring agent in many traditional dishes.

Today, organic butterfly pea tea is gaining popularity worldwide, especially among health-conscious individuals who are looking for natural ways to improve their overall health and well-being. Its unique blue color and therapeutic properties make it a popular ingredient in teas, smoothies, and other beverages.
