Adding oil to conditioner

Writer's picture: AdminAdmin

Adding oil to a conditioner that’s already formulated can mess up the formula for several reasons:

1. Balance of ingredients: Conditioners are carefully formulated with specific ratios of water, oils, emulsifiers, and other active ingredients. Adding extra oil can disrupt this balance, causing the product to separate or become too greasy.

2. Absorption issues: Too much oil can create a barrier on your hair, preventing moisture from penetrating and leaving hair feeling heavy or coated instead of soft and hydrated.

3. Diluting effectiveness: Conditioners contain emulsifiers to ensure oils and water mix well. Adding more oil than the formula can handle may reduce the effectiveness of both the conditioning agents and the oils, so neither works properly.

In short, adding oil can throw off the chemistry, making the product less effective and harder to apply evenly. If you need extra moisture, it’s better to use a separate oil treatment after conditioning.

Great article! I am new to the Cyn wagon and I recently ordered a few items from the herb bar. I don’t know if it’s the universe, osmosis, or Cyn’s contagious passion for hair care but I decided to finally take the leap and get my nutrition certification! I doubted myself for far too long, but no more. Keep up the good work, Cyn doll!! 💕
