Knotting and causes of why it happens on hair and any part of the hair shaft.

Single-strand knots, also known as fairy knots or single knots, are tiny knots that can form in individual strands of hair. They occur when a single strand of hair twists around itself, forming a knot that can be difficult to remove without cutting the hair. Single-strand knots are most common in curly or coily hair textures, which are more prone to tangling and knotting due to their shape and the way they naturally grow. These knots can cause breakage and damage to the hair, especially if they are not removed carefully or if they are left in the hair for an extended period of time. To prevent single-strand knots, it is important to keep the hair well-moisturized and detangled, and to avoid excessive manipulation or brushing.

Trichonodosis

Trichonodosis, also known as "nodding syndrome" or "habit-tic deformity of scalp," is a condition in which the individual has small, nodular swellings along the hair shafts, usually near the ends of the hair. These nodules are caused by repetitive, compulsive, and often unconscious twisting or pulling of the hair, which leads to hair breakage, hair loss, and damage to the hair follicles. Trichonodosis is often associated with psychological stress or anxiety, and may also occur as a result of certain hair treatments or styles that put tension on the hair, such as tight braids or weaves. Treatment for trichonodosis typically involves addressing any underlying psychological or emotional issues, as well as adopting a gentle hair care regimen that minimizes tension on the hair. In severe cases, medical interventions such as topical or oral medications may be recommended.

Cause: over-manipulation, wet detangling, product build-up, poor maintenance practices.

Trichonodosis can also cause by a change or imbalance in your hair growth cycle. Hair is drastically different lengths causing the shorter hairs to wrap around longer hairs creating knots.

split ends also wrap around each other form what we know as "fairy knots" or single strand knots.

Solution: Hair is a fiber that does not repair itself. Once the ends are split there is no way to assemble them. any solution will be short-term as a sealant to temporarily hold the ends together as it slows down the hair growth cycles.

There is no treatment only maintenance!
